Slovakia is about the size of The Netherlands with a population of 5 million. Starting near the river Danube and finishing near this same river in Yugoslavia the Western Carpathian Mountains dominate the topography of the country. The High Tatras in the central ranges of the country contain the highest peak in the country at 2655 metres - 80% of Slovakia is of a mountainous nature. Nature lovers, including those valuing silence, mushroom pickers, fishermen, photographers and especially hunters have good reason to visit Slovakia. Apart from the beautiful scenery, and the recreational facilities, the Slovak forests offer bountiful game of world trophy quality.

Typical of the picturesque nature of Slovakia is the little town of Pukanec and the adjacent village Uhliská. They are situated in the southwest of Slovakia, on the promontories of the Štiavnické Mountains. Pukanec's origins are in mining due to the discovery of gold and silver in the surrounding mountains and the town was later granted a statute of royal municipal rights for its economic development. Today this beautiful region has a population of 3,000 inhabitants. The locals still practice mainly subsistence farming. The picturesque scenery of Pukanec's forests with the low and highlands ranging from 300 to 800 metres above sea level create the perfect environment for tourists and excellent game shooting. The area has a pleasant climate with an average of 50 summer days at temperatures between 25 - 30 C and relatively kind winters.
